Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation

When existing sewer, waterway, and bridge structures deteriorate and no longer function properly, or when changes in surrounding conditions make it impossible to ensure safety within the existing structural cross-section, the existing structure must be demolished and reinstalled, or repaired and reinforced. Existing repair and reinforcement methods include assembling rebar internally, installing formwork and shore supports, and then pouring concrete, or installing precast concrete internally. However, the confined workspace during internal construction increases the risk of safety accidents. Furthermore, quality control and construction supervision make it difficult to effectively manage quality and schedule. Furthermore, in the case of on-site casting, the installation of shore supports hinders internal passage for existing pedestrians, leading to complaints. Furthermore, the lengthy construction period often leads to unexpected additional costs, frequently leading to conflicts between the client and the contractor.

Solution

The method for repairing and reinforcing a structure using corrugated steel plates is as follows: ① Secure space inside the existing structure to install the steel plates, ② Assemble individual sheets of steel plates inside or assemble corrugated steel plates in bulk from the outside, ③ Push in using hydraulic and mechanical equipment, ➞ ④ Fill the space between the corrugated steel plates and the existing structure, ➞ ⑤ Use the grouting socket attached to the corrugated steel plates at the factory to fill the space behind the corrugated steel plates from the inside, and ➞ ⑥ Fill in concrete to complete the construction. By reinforcing the existing structure using corrugated steel plates on the inside, you can prevent disruption of traffic that may occur when the existing structure is demolished, ensure safety, and reduce incidental costs due to shortened construction periods.

Solution

Design, fabrication, and installation can be completed in a timeframe incomparably faster than concrete structures, tailored to the site conditions requiring urgent construction. Design: 2 days, fabrication: 1 day, corrugated steel plate installation: 1 day (Cheongdo-gun Rail Bike Site, August 2018)
