Rockfall & Landslide Protection Shed

With 70% of the country being mountainous, landslides and rock slides caused by the displacement of cut surfaces during the rainy and thawing seasons on roads that have long been unavoidable have resulted in significant property and casualty losses, as well as significant national and individual losses due to road closures. Therefore, it is crucial to minimize these annual damages by installing rock tunnels in steep slopes and areas prone to rock slides.

Common construction methods that can be applied include on-site rebar and concrete pouring. However, the lengthy construction period necessitates prolonged traffic control, which presents a significant inconvenience. Special measures must be taken to address the potential for sudden soil and rock slides during construction due to natural disasters. Furthermore, construction costs are not competitive with those of factory-made prefabricated products.

Solution Corrugated steel plate rock tunnels are generally constructed with a balance of soil on both sides, and when there is an eccentric action on one side, many problems can arise in the stability of the corrugated steel plate structure. Accordingly, when designing a corrugated steel plate rock tunnel, the stress and corresponding conditions for one side (soil and rock sliding) are investigated in advance based on the ground data, and FEA analysis (MIdas GTS NX, Midas Civil) is performed to calculate the member force, and the corrugated section of the corrugated steel plate that can respond is selected (since 2016, the application of ultra-coarse type, which has a cross-sectional moment increased by more than three times compared to the existing large type, is advantageous for stability), and the design of the steel type, thickness, reinforcement, and the reinforced concrete retaining wall and foundation on the side is performed.

In addition, since the Piam Tunnel is mainly installed on existing roads with steep slopes, it has excellent on-site applicability by applying a 'Pre-Fabricated Beam' that is pre-fabricated at the factory according to the road alignment as an elbow.

For all safety factors (SF: Safety Factor) corresponding to design stability, the design is reviewed to be SF: 150% to 200% or higher, which is higher than the safety factor of general corrugated steel plates (SF: 120%, OK if 100% or higher). (Considering stress exceeding design requirements in case of rainfall and landslides due to continuously increasing climate change) In addition, by performing FEA Simulation for each stage of all conditions that may occur during construction (retaining wall construction, backfill stage, concrete pouring pressure, live load conditions by compaction equipment, etc.) along with post-completion stability at the time of design, the structural safety factor (SF) of the corrugated steel plates used in the past was sufficiently secured by applying the 'extra-large corrugated steel plates (EXSCor),' and it has sufficient competitiveness to satisfy customers in terms of economy and constructability.
